Weehawken Mini House
This small site of 2,858 square feet is located on a steep hill overlooking the HollandTunnel helix and NYC skyline. It is set in a dense residential district and contains additional restrictions due to the steep slope of the land.

The owner came to us after unsuccessfully contracting a couple of architectural firms for the project. After carefully analyzing the zoning as well as previous work, it became clear that shifting the design focus to strictly meet the code was the way forward.

1. Design a residential home that could accommodate two people.
2. Bedroom
3. Bathroom
4. Kitchen
5. Living
6. 2 car parking
The tight lot and restrictions meant the house could only be 18’x 15’-6” and had to make
room for 2 parking spots, a living space, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. The design focused on utilizing height to accommodate the program. Due to the steep slope, circulation of the house would occur vertically, starting from the top and descending to the bedroom and living spaces.

The garage was designed to hold a car lift, allowing for 2 compact car spots to satisfy the off-street parking requirements. We created a design set of drawings and realistic renderings for presentation. The design passes and ultimately cost the owner a fraction of his previous attempts.
